Flying mines are bombs that Mantas
can deploy. When they detonate, they explode into horizontally
expanding rings of white light. They can serve as an effective barrier,
blockading anything the Manta wants.
In Cold War, three Mantas dropped hundreds of mines to stop Odd and Aelita from reaching the activated tower.
However, the minefield backfired, resulting in a Manta colliding with a
mine. The minefield was taken out with the detonation one mine, causing
a chain reaction that destroyed the rest. The mines, themselves, can
pursue anything, matching the speed of Ulrich's Overbike. It is shown in the episode Cold War that a field of mines disappear after a period of time.
In Deja Vu, Ulrich lured the mines to explode on the Scyphozoa, showing that they can be used to turn against XANA's monsters.
